I am Yazmin Moses, a self-taught Pop Surrealist artist based in Orlando, Florida, where I create from a home studio.
Art has been a lifelong passion; ever since I was a child, I’ve found joy in creating and knew deep down I wanted to be an artist. From my earliest memories, I’ve loved escaping into the world of drawing, where imagination had no limits. Over the years, I explored a variety of mediums, eventually finding my true expression through oil painting on wood.
For years, my signature orchid-head character appeared throughout my paintings. This character has now evolved into Phala, the Orchid Head the central figure of my surreal world and a reflection of my artistic journey. She is often accompanied by hummingbirds, butterflies, and glowing click beetles, symbols that weave together the whimsical and the peculiar. These characters are often born from a mix of experiences, inspiration, dreamlike imagery, and the intrusive, goofy thoughts that I simply can't ignore. That playful inner chaos helps fuel the stories I tell through my work, adding a layer of cuteness and unpredictability to the surreal worlds I create.
I’ve been creating art for over two decades, but consistently since 2018. While oil painting continues to be a favorite, in 2026 I also decided to pick up sculpting again, a medium I hadn't worked with in years. By expanding into three dimensions, I am now creating custom designer art toys and detailed physical sculptures of the unique characters that interact with Phala, pulling them right off the wood panels and into the physical world. It’s my joy to continue sharing my art with you.
My art is a reflection of who I am, an intimate blend of emotions, thoughts, and quiet moments that find their way onto the canvas. Painting brings me a deep sense of calm and freedom, helping me stay connected to what matters most. I’m endlessly inspired by the natural world, its colors, textures, and quiet rhythms, but also by everyday moments and the people who shape my life.
From my window, I often see butterflies dancing among the flowers, a gentle reminder to slow down and stay present. That constant living beauty, along with bursts of dreamlike imagery and the occasional silly thought, fuels the surreal worlds I paint.
My works feature my main character, Phala, the Orchid-Head girl who appears throughout my work. Her beautiful, tangled orchid roots represent the complex and sometimes overwhelming ways I process the world around me. She is accompanied by glowing click beetles, hummingbirds, and butterflies, whimsical figures that blend playfulness with emotion. These characters are visual stories born from curiosity, healing, and imagination, each one a small piece of my inner world brought to life.
